How to Care for Your Custom Van Interior: The Complete Maintenance Guide for Leather, Starlight Headliners, and Marine Flooring

Go Back

A $179,000 executive van is a long-term investment. The difference between a conversion that looks brand new after five years and one that shows its age starts with maintenance.

Katzkin Leather: Routine Care and Seasonal Conditioning

Genuine leather requires active maintenance to stay supple and crack-free. Weekly: wipe surfaces with a lightly dampened microfiber cloth — no household cleaners, no silicone-based products. Monthly: apply a pH-neutral leather conditioner (we recommend Leather Honey or Chamberlain's Leather Milk) with a soft applicator pad, working it into the surface in circular motions, then buff dry. Twice yearly: use a leather cleaner before conditioning to remove embedded oils and grime. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight — UV is the primary accelerant of leather degradation.

Starlight Fiber Optic Headliner: What You Can and Can't Do

The fiber optic strands in a Starlight headliner are the most delicate component of your build. Cleaning: vacuum gently with a brush attachment to remove dust. For spots, use a barely-damp white cloth with no chemical cleaners. Never press firmly — the strand matrix beneath the fabric can be displaced. Do not attempt to remove and reinstall panels yourself. If a section of the headliner develops a dark patch (failed strand cluster), contact Upgrade Van directly — this is covered under our warranty program for the first two years.

Marine-Grade Flooring: Daily Care and Deep Cleaning

Daily: sweep or vacuum to prevent grit from acting as an abrasive on the surface finish. Weekly: damp mop with a pH-neutral floor cleaner. Do not use steam cleaners — the heat can compromise the adhesive layer between the flooring and subfloor at seam edges. Quarterly: apply a marine floor protectant to maintain the UV-stable finish and water repellency. For deep scratches or edge lifting, contact Upgrade Van — do not attempt to re-adhere lifted sections with consumer adhesives.

Most interior damage is preventable. The maintenance that takes 20 minutes a week protects a $30,000 interior package.

Window Shades and Privacy Partition

Window shades: wipe the fabric surface with a dry microfiber cloth weekly. For stubborn marks, use a lightly dampened cloth with diluted mild soap — never submerge the shade mechanism. Retract fully before extended parking in hot weather to prevent heat creep in the retraction channel. Privacy partition (if installed): clean glass panels with a streak-free glass cleaner. The motor mechanism requires no routine maintenance but should be exercised weekly — operate it through a full cycle to prevent seizure from infrequent use.

Acoustic Insulation: What Not to Touch

The acoustic insulation layer is sealed behind panels and requires no routine maintenance from the owner. The one exception: if you notice a new persistent rattle or vibration that wasn't present before, it may indicate a panel fastener has loosened. Do not attempt to remove interior panels yourself — the headliner and wall panel system is precision-fitted and reassembly requires specialized tooling. Schedule a service visit.
