1. Acoustic Engineering — The Invisible Differentiator

Road noise is the most overlooked quality indicator in van conversions. A premium build should incorporate multi-layer acoustic insulation: mass-loaded vinyl barriers, closed-cell foam decoupling, sound-deadening mats on the floor and walls, and air-gap management around penetrations. Ask any builder for their decibel reduction specs. If they can't provide them, that tells you everything.

2. Upholstery Grade — Leather Is Not Just Leather

Automotive vinyl can look identical to genuine leather in a showroom photo. Verify the material: certified Katzkin leather, full-grain hides, or marine-grade performance fabric are the benchmarks. Ask for material spec sheets. Premium upholstery includes double-stitched seams, piping detail, and UV-stable dyes that won't fade or crack within two years.

3. Headliner Quality — Where Cheap Builds Fail First

A sagging, wrinkled, or chemically off-gassing headliner is the fastest way to identify a budget conversion. True executive builds use Maybach-inspired panel systems with structural backing, or fiber optic Starlight headliners that require precise routing of hundreds of individual strands. Ask to see the installation in person — not just in photos.

4. Climate & Privacy Systems

Blackout window shades, thermal insulation layers, and rear-zone climate separation are standard features in a genuine executive build. Many budget conversions install decorative window covers that provide neither blackout capability nor meaningful thermal protection. Verify R-values and test the shades in person.

5. Flooring — Marine Grade Is the Standard

Van floors endure moisture, temperature swings, and heavy foot traffic. Marine-grade waterproof flooring — properly sub-floored with moisture barriers — is the only appropriate choice for a vehicle that needs to last a decade. Luxury vinyl plank glued directly to the metal floor without a subfloor will delaminate. Ask how the subfloor is constructed.

6. The Builder's Track Record

• Request a portfolio of completed builds with client references
• Ask for photos from the build process, not just the finished product
